8 Months Old

Nursing: Cash is still just eating mama’s milk. No solids yet, however, I think he is ready to try some…I’m just not quite ready. I just love nursing and while I know that he will still nurse after we introduce solids, I’m having a tough time actually pulling the trigger.

Cloth Diapering: We recently purchased a spray pal and a diaper sprayer from Mother’s Haven to prepare for the introduction of solid foods. Nick hooked it up and we have used it a few times. We also purchased a new Samsung washing machine and dryer. I feel like the diapers are cleaner and they are super soft when they come out of the steam dryer! We are really happy with our purchase. I also think I may buy some organic cotton material to make some diaper inserts since it will be harder to sun the stains out in the winter.

Sleep: I feel like we are coming up on a change in Cash’s night time sleeping. In the last week he has slept 3-4 hour stretches several different nights! I hope that it continues! Naptime is still a bit more difficult; if I want Cash to get a decent nap in then I have to either wear him or lay down with him in the bed. I know this will change soon though.

Likes/Dislikes: Cash is such a H-A-P-P-Y baby! We just love it! He like so many things it is hard to list them all but here is a quick recap of his current likes:
  • Splashing in his little swimming pool and the bathtub
  • “Playing” guitar with daddy – this consists of Cash banging on the guitar and Nick helping Cash strum
  • “Cat fights” with daddy – Nick kisses and tickles Cash with his beard and Cash just goes WILD
  • Crawling on his very own mommy jungle gym or daddy jungle gym
  • Giving “kisses” – really it’s mostly slobbering all over your face
  • Standing
  • Walks with the dogs
  • My mom's new puppy, Perri
  • Reading books – his favorite books are by Bill Martin Jr and illustrated by Eric Carle – we have BrownBear Brown Bear, Panda Bear Panda Bear, Polar Bear Polar Bear, Baby Bear BabyBear and The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

I am happy to report that we moved Cash up to the rear facing toddler car seat and he is a changed baby in the car! He actually enjoys car rides 75% of the time now and even falls asleep! It is such an answer to prayer!

The only thing Cash really doesn’t like now is diaper change time. As soon as we get his diaper off he flips over and tries to crawl away (we obviously had to start changing him on the ground). It takes two people to change his diaper now and he cries and fusses, especially for his nighttime diaper change. Poor little guy!

Activities: We had a busy, busy month! Cash attended his very first wedding for a sweet young couple we met in our marriage group, Katherine and Daniel. One of the boys (well men now) whom I used to baby sit also just got married. We weren’t able to go to the wedding in Snohomish because Cash was still in the infant car sear and we just couldn’t put him through a 5-hour car ride, but they had a wedding reception in Spokane. It was so great to get to celebrate with Sam and Suzy! They are such a cute couple! I’m so glad that Sam has a wonderful gal like Suzy to now call his wife!

My two cousins, Michael and Allison, and they kiddos Mason and Abby, were also in town for the day. It was my first time meeting Mason and both he and Abby are such sweet kids. I hope that Cash gets to see them again when he is old enough to remember.

Health: Cash went though a growing spurt this past month. He weighed 15 pounds 5 ounces when I weighed him last week and he is 26 ½ inches long. So far he has been really healthy, although he is constantly teething. We don’t have any teeth yet but I feel like they will make their grand entrance in the next month.

Cash is also crawling and pulling himself up to stand constantly. He army crawls like a new Army recruit!

Nick and I both think that his eyes will be hazel like mine, but they may have more green than mine. Either way they are so beautiful! Cash is also finally starting to grow some hair! It is also similar to my natural color (light brown). He definitely has his daddy’s beautiful olive skin tone though and looks so much like Nick!

Cash is still saying lots of “ma ma mas” but we sear he said “daddy” and “doggie” this past month! It is so cool how he can mimic what he hears already!

Best Moment: Every moment is so special with our little Cash man, but it was so cool to see him crawl for the first time this month! Once he started crawling he didn’t waste any time crawling all around the house! He went from talking his first little “crawls” one day to crawling from the living room down the hall to the master bedroom two days later. He certainly in a fast learner!
