13 Weeks

How Far Along? 13 Weeks

Total Weight Gain: I lost about 4 pounds in my first trimester, but my appetite is back! I currently weigh 113 so I’m just one pound shy of my pre-pregnancy weight.

Have You Started to Show? Yes!! I love my little bump! I think most people would just think that I really enjoy my bagels (ironic since I’m gluten free and don’t eat bagels), but those who know me have noticed my baby bump.

Stretch Marks? No, thank goodness! I apply Belli Elasticity Oil in the morning and Mother’s Special Blend Oil at night. Hopefully that helps!

Belly Button? In, but I think my belly button is a bit shallow so I have a feeling that will change.

Maternity Clothes? I don’t have a problem with my tops, but pants are a different story! I am currently using the hair tie trick when I wear my capris, but I don’t really like it. I bought my first pair of maternity leggings that I thought I would be able to use for both yoga and out and about…WRONG! I was so excited about my new pants that I put them on as soon as I got home and wore them for the rest of the day while I was running errands. Later that evening I bent over in my bedroom and Nick informed me that he knew I was wearing a pink and black striped thong! I had no idea that they were practically see through in the rump! I guess those pants will be “at home” pants only. I’m sure I gave the people of Coeur d’Alene quite a show!

Symptoms: I’ve been feeling great for the most part, just a little tired. I did have some discomfort on the right side of my tailbone, but my prenatal yoga instructor walked me through some stretches that really helped!

Movement? Not yet, but I can’t wait to feel our little baby for the first time!

Sleep? Not that great this week. We are currently installing some beautiful Acacia hardwood floors so our house is a little unorganized. I can’t stand a messy house so I think that is contributing to my restless sleep. I always get up between 2 AM and 3 AM to pee so that doesn’t help either.

Exercise? I have my 90-minute prenatal yoga class every Monday night. Since I started the prenatal classes at week 5 I have only missed two, due to the all day and night sickness early on. I also still attend my regular 90-minute yoga classes throughout the week-usually 2-3 times. Nick and I also like to walk the dogs through our neighborhood. We haven’t been as good about that this last week, but with the return of some nice weather I know that will change.

Food Cravings: Eggs, beef and dill pickles! I cannot seem to get enough eggs! I buy eggs from a local farm by my house and hard-boil a half a dozen every other day. Then I cut them up and add several dill pickles, fresh cracked pepper and a small amount of mustard and mayo. Voila! My go to snack of choice! I usually eat my egg salad with some rice crackers. My other major craving is a juicy cheeseburger (no bun) made from our organic beef we buy from the Selkirk Ranch. Nick barbecues the burgers, adds the cheese toward the end and serves them up! I eat mine with several dill pickles on top. Dill pickles are obviously incorporated into my favorite foods right now, but I also enjoy sneaking a few from the jar everyday too!

Food Aversions: Chicken. I have a serious aversion to any kind of chicken right now. This has been going on for several weeks. I don’t think I’ve had chicken for 6 weeks.

Happy or Moody? HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY! Loving being pregnant!

Miss Anything? Coffee and red wine

Nursery Progress: The nursery is still currently the upstairs guest room but that will be changing tomorrow! The room will be emptied out and Sam, our wonderful contractor, will be starting on the hardwood floors! I can’t wait to have the floors installed and have our nursery room empty and ready to decorate and fill!

Best Moment This Week: Besides the week that I found out I was pregnant this week was by far the most amazing week of my pregnancy. We had our 13-week appointment and we were able to hear the heart beat for the first time! Our midwife said the heartbeat sounded really good and strong, 160 beats per minute. It is just so incredible to hear the heartbeat of our baby beating strongly inside me. I think it made the pregnancy more real for Nick too. He has been touching my little bump more often and smiling. Nick recorded the heartbeat on his cell phone so we can listen to it anytime we want. I listen to it several times a day and it brings tears to my eyes every time!

Looking Forward to: Feeling the baby move for the first time. I know it’s still early, but I still cannot wait!

I'm Pregnant

posted on Monday, June 23, 2014 by Kyra

I finally saw those two glorious pink lines that I have been waiting for on April 14th, 2012! I’m PREGNANT! What an amazing feeling! But just to be certain I had to double check with a different brand. Again, two beautiful bright pink lines! I couldn’t believe it, I was so used to seeing that one pink line and nothing else. It really was surreal.

As soon as I discovered I was pregnant I wanted to run into the kitchen and tell my hubby, Nick, but I had a little surprise planned to tell him about our “little surprise”. So, instead I calmly walked into the kitchen and gave Nick a big hug and told him that I wanted to make him a nice dinner that night.

All day I was so excited to tell him, but I had to pick up a few items so my little plan would go off without a hitch. A quick trip to the store and the 50% Off Card Shop and I was ready! Since my dad recently went on a fishing trip to Alaska and sent home some yummy fresh salmon I decided that was the perfect meal. I baked the salmon, sautéed the green beans and made my new favorite dish, mashed cauliflower, which is a great healthy substitution for potatoes, since I’m not a huge potato fan.

While dinner was cooking I set the table and hid the present I wrapped earlier. Nick and I sat down for dinner and I told him I had a present for him (I may have fibbed a little and said it was for passing his Idaho Associate Brokers test). When he opened the present he saw that positive pregnancy test and a grey t-shirt that said “BEST DAD EVER” on the front. He looked up at me and said, “Oh my gosh, you’re pregnant?!” At this point I was of course crying. Then we both were hugging and crying.

After we enjoyed dinner we left to tell my mom and dad. First up was my mom’s house. We walked in and Nick took off his jacket, proudly wearing his “BEST DAD EVER” t-shirt. We stood side by side smiling waiting for my mom to notice Nick’s shirt. My mom, ever the observant one, didn’t even notice his shirt but asked why we were both smiling. All I had to say was “Well, why do you think?” She then proceeded to jump up and down shouting, “No way! No way! No way! No way!” Needless to say she is super pumped to be a nana. Next stop was my dad’s house. Nick and I walked in and again Nick took off his jacket and we stood there waiting for him to notice. My dad was visiting with our business partner and good friend, Joel, at the time. My dad and Joel read Nick’s shirt and Joel immediately smiled and congratulated us. I think it took a minute for it to sink in for my dad because he asked if the shirt was for him! My dad is just so funny! Right after he asked we just laughed and said no we’re pregnant! Commence celebration number two!

It still doesn’t feel real and I’m sure it won’t until we hear that first heartbeat, but we are both extremely excited!

Week 5 was an easy week. I added in some prenatal yoga to my normal yoga schedule. Weeks 6 through 8 were really rough. I had morning sickness ALL day and night for those three weeks. I did find periodic relief when I had some acupuncture sessions. After three sessions my nausea abated!

Week 9 we bought our first item for the baby, a pair of bright red Toms!

Week 10 was a particularly memorable week for us. First off, my tummy started showing a little bump. It was so fun to see our tiny little baby making his or her presence known! We also decided to send out a fun pregnancy announcement card to our friends and family. For this we need some fun photos! One call to our amazing wedding photographer, Mr. Jay, and we had our pregnancy announcement shoot scheduled! We took some really memorable photos that I know we will cherish forever!

Week 11 we decided to have some fun with our Live Real Estate family. For our office meeting we decided to announce that we were having a baby. Nick wore his BEST DAD EVER shirt to the meeting. When we started our meeting he took his jacket off and we sat there smiling waiting for them to notice. At first a few people thought it was for our doggies! Ha! We do love our little Harrison and Addy! Then Tom stopped the meeting and everyone caught on! Too fun!

Week 12 we sent out our pregnancy announcements and enjoyed all the phone calls and text messages congratulating us!

My goal for the second and third trimester is to post a weekly update. I think it will be so awesome to have this to look back on during our future pregnancies.
