Traditions: Pumpkin Picking

posted on Saturday, October 31, 2015 by Kyra

Last year when I was pregnant we took a trip up to Greenbluff to pick our fall pumpkins; this year we got to take Cash on his first pumpkin-picking excursion!

Nick’s parents came with us so we were able take some really fun photos!

We went to a pumpkin patch first that had a little pony, a big pig and two little Shetland sheep. Cash reached right out and touched the pony’s nose and he LOVED watching the pig root around in the mud. The little sheep where shy, but Cash peeked into their little pen and watched them huddle together.

I always seem to forget that pumpkins have prickly stems and leaves so my thought of letting Cash crawl around in the dirt to pick his very own pumpkin didn’t quite come to fruition, but he did enjoy himself. We also got some particularly cute pictures of Cash Man playing with the onions and the apples!

Harvest House is a must stop on the list and was perfect for lunch and of course, the best part, dessert! Pumpkin ice cream is a must have on my fall list.

They had some really big (non prickly) pumpkins that Cash was able to play around in, so everything worked out perfectly!

I wanted to pick some apples too, but Cash was ready for a nap. Hopefully next year we make it to the apples; I know this will be a really fun yearly tradition!

HAPPY FALL Y’ALL

10 Months Old

Nursing/Eating: We officially introduced solids! It took me a while to get on board with it but now I’m so happy about my choice. We decided we loved the Baby Led Weaning idea so we went straight to solids and skipped the whole spoon-fed baby food. Cash’s first food was avocado and he has since had steamed carrots and oddly enough, basil. He makes the funniest faces what he eats so mealtime is truly entertaining!

Cloth Diapering: Most of our small OBFs are pretty snug so we are officially just wearing mediums now! Cash’s poops are certainly thicker with the introduction of solids!

Sleep: I think I just need to accept the fact that I don’t have a child who is a great sleeper. Cash will still only nap on us or with me lying down in the bed with him. Nighttime isn’t much better. He still wakes up almost hourly to comfort nurse. It only takes a few second for him to fall back asleep but it’s enough to wake me up. I have tried to just snuggle or rub his back to help him fall back asleep but it doesn’t work.

Likes/Dislikes: Cash loves his books! We read the same books over and over but he just loves them! He loves to turn each page and point to different things on the page. He also LOVES his Grimm’s toy car! (I LOVE Grimms Toys! They are rally nice quality and are NOT made in China!) He pushes it all around the house and makes the most adorable “brrrmmm brrrmmm” noises. His car keeps him entertained for 30 minutes plus! When something new catches his attention it also becomes a car. This includes shoes, my wallet, all his other toys and pretty much anything that fits in his little hand!

Cash does not like diaper changes and getting dressed or undressed. He also isn’t a big fan of his car seat still. I would say 75% of the time he is ok in his car seat and the other 25% of the time he is screaming! Not crying, not sobbing, SCREAMING! It’s truly awful to listen too and it breaks my heart, but there isn’t anything I can do about it.

Activities: We took Cash up to Greenbluff, with Nick’s parents, to pick pumpkins and he had a blast! He also loved the farm animals and the hay bails. I know this will be a yearly tradition for our little family.

Nick's sister also came to Spokane for a visit so Cash got to see his auntie Shanna!

Health: We are so blessed to have a happy healthy baby boy! Cash still only has 4 teeth, but the fifth tooth (top left i-tooth) is quickly making its trip down.

Best Moment: The best moment was most definitely giving Cash his first solid food! I just love how curious he is and his “bitter beer” face was truly priceless!

Status: SOLIDS!

Well we finally took the plunge and introduced solid foods on October 6th. I bought a bag of organic avocados at Costco planning on talking myself into giving one to Cash and it was perfect for his first food.

I haven't been able to import photos for almost a month so the next few posts are a little late, but it couldn't be avoided! Posts without photos are just too boring so I couldn't do it!
I researched baby led weaning before Cash was born and loved the concept! It is so much easier than spoon-feeding and I love that it allows Cash to decide what and how much he wants to eat.

He really enjoyed smashing the avocado all over the counter but did eventually take a bite. He made the funniest “bitter beer” face and most of the avocado ended up on the floor for the dogs but all around it was a success.

The day after the avocado we went to dinner with our friend’s Mike and Doreen at Perry Street Pizza. Cash wanted to eat our pizza so we gave him a little sliver of basil and he LOVED it! He ended up eating several slivers and was perfectly content to sit on daddy’s lap and enjoy his basil.

A few days after Cash tried the avocado, I steamed an organic carrot and gave Cash some avocado and carrot at dinnertime. This time he decided he liked the avocado but wasn’t too sure about the carrot! I think he just needs a little time to warm up to the new textures.

It so fun to watch his facial expressions with the new textures and flavors! I’m not sure what we will try next but I know that I want to stick to vegetables right now and then introduce some meat. I think we will save the sweet fruits for a little while.

2 Teeth, 3 Teeth, 4 Teeth!

Since Cash cut his first tooth a few weeks ago he has been teething like a mad man! His second bottom middle tooth broke through within a week of his first tooth. Then a couple of days later  Nick and I noticed that his two top middle teeth were about to break through! It only took a few days for the top two middle to completely break through. SO in the span of 2-3 weeks Cash got FOUR teeth!

Needless to say, it has been a rough, uncomfortable few weeks for our Cash man. When his teeth are cutting through we give him a couple Highlands Teething tablets and they really help calm him down.  He also likes to chew on cold, wet washcloths. Of course, lots of extra snuggles, love and nursing are a given too.

We had a couple calmer days, but then Cash started chomping and fussing again so we think tooth number 5 is quickly approaching!
