Family Friday

Spring is in the air in beautiful north Idaho! Last Friday was 62 degrees and sunny so we decided to play hooky from work and responsibility and take Cash to McEuen Park in Coeur d’Alene.

The first time we took Cash to the park by our house he was more interested in chewing all of the wood chips than playing on the toys so we weren't sure how he would react this time. We should have known that he would love it!

The slide was definitely the hit of the playground! He went down the slide with Nick and me a few times and then "by himself" over and over again. When he would get to the bottom he would try to climb right back up! It was so darling!

They also had this mini tunnel to crawl through and Cash thought it was the perfect thing to play peek-a-boo in! He liked the tunnel so much he had to give it a kiss - he is such a love!

We tried the swings again, but Cash is still not a huge fan of them. I think when he gets a little bigger he will change his mind though. There were so many other great things to play on that it didn't really matter.

We are so excited to welcome spring back we can hardly stand it! Fingers crossed that our beautiful sunshine will come back soon!

14 Months Old

Nursing/Eating: We added several new foods to our lineup this month. I’ve been gluten free for 6 years so I knew that I wanted Cash to be gluten free as well, but lately I’ve been researching a primal diet and I really like it. With this being said Cash and I will go primal  together – grass-fed meats, vegetables, eggs, healthy fats, nuts/seeds and fruit, limited dairy (yogurt and cheese) - no grains/gluten, soy, corn etc. I think I may add lentils and beans to our list but only in moderation. This really won’t be a huge adjustment since Cash has only eaten meats and vegetables so far.

I’ve been addicted to green smoothies with lots of kale, spinach, swiss chard, ginger root, lemon, carrot, apple and coconut milk. One day Cash saw me drinking my smoothie and decided he wanted to try it so I gave him some small sips and he loved it! Now we share our green smoothie together every morning. Cash also eats chicken, pork chops, black beans and lentil soup! He still nurses throughout the day but it we are out and about he sometimes will go 2-3 hours without nursing.

Sleep: Cash slept really well a few nights and I was hoping that it would stick, but alas, it didn’t. I’ve become surprisingly efficient at functioning on little to no sleep so I’ve just accepted that I don’t have a great sleeper on my hands. When it comes to sleeping for nana, Cash is the poster child for sleep, that or my mom is the ultimate baby whisperer. She simply holds him in his blanket (that she lovingly knitted for him using organic cotton yarn), rocks him, hums and POOF he falls asleep!

Likes/Dislikes: Cash’s favorite activity is walking! He started walking this month and just took off with it! Now wherever we go he wants to hold our hand and walk with us or push the shopping cart around the store. We are having so much fun with this new stage!

We are still having a tough time with diaper changes but I discovered that Cash likes it when I smell his feet while I’m changing him. I can usually get him to stop screaming and crying just by smelling his foot and telling him that he has stinky feet!

Health: Cold and flu season is in full swing so we’ve had some runny noses this month but nothing major. I came down with a really bad cold but luckily Cash didn’t get it.

Cash is working on his 8th tooth right now so we have some fussy days, but that’s to be expected with teething. We give him frozen organic green beans and it seems to really help!

It’s amazing to see how much Cash is changing. We’ve gone from our cuddly little baby to a walking, talking, dog chasing, sometimes cuddly, tantrum throwing, independent, sweet and silly little toddler! Our love for him grows each day and we can't imagine our life without our Cash Man now!
